Maintenance and Troubleshooting of Car Rearview Mirrors

Regularly wipe the mirror surface with glass cleaner to avoid blurred vision caused by dust, oil stains, or bird droppings accumulation; Rainy and foggy weather requires timely removal of water vapor condensation.

1. Key points of daily maintenance

Mirror cleaning

Regularly wipe the mirror surface with glass cleaner to avoid blurred vision caused by dust, oil stains, or bird droppings accumulation; Rainy and foggy weather requires timely removal of water vapor condensation.

Avoid using corrosive cleaning agents to prevent mirror oxidation or coating damage.

Mechanical component maintenance

Regularly apply lubricating grease to the folding joints of the electric rearview mirror to prevent sticking.

Check if the fixing screws of the mirror housing are loose, especially after driving on bumpy roads, they need to be reinforced.

2. Common fault diagnosis and handling

1. Mirror blur/abnormality

Solution to the cause of the phenomenon

The temperature difference caused by water mist condensation leads to mirror condensation, which activates the heating function (if any) or is wiped with a soft cloth

Scratches/oxidation, physical scratching, or UV aging. Replace the lens to avoid affecting its optical performance

Stains, adhesions, insect glue, tree sap, and other stubborn dirt are removed after softening with a specialized glass cleaner

2. Mechanical structural failure

The rearview mirror is loose

Interior rearview mirror: Check if the ball screw is loose and tighten it; If the windshield adhesive falls off, it needs to be re fixed with special glue.

Exterior rearview mirror: The folding joint is loose or the mirror shell is damaged. It is recommended to replace it as a whole.

Cannot fold/unfold

First check the fuse and power circuit (accounting for 28% of the failure rate); If the power supply is normal but the motor does not respond, it may be due to gear jamming or motor damage, and the drive module needs to be replaced.

Stage failure (such as the Zhijie R7 case): Temporarily expand by adjusting the knob, but replace the assembly as soon as possible.

3. Electronic function failure

Troubleshooting steps and handling measures for functional abnormalities

Heating and defogging failure detection. Check if the resistance value of the heating wire is normal. Replace the heating module or lens

Anti glare malfunction inspection, photosensitive sensor and control circuit maintenance circuit or replacement of sensor

Adjust the unresponsive test switch signal (whether the data stream is transmitted to the control unit) and replace the switch or door control module

 3. Intelligent system fault handling

For rearview mirrors with blind spot monitoring, reverse flip and other functions:

Camera/sensor malfunction

Lens fouling causes blurry image: Clean the optical components with an alcohol swab to solve 80% of intermittent faults.

Screen distortion or signal interruption: Check the sensor circuit for compression damage and repair the shielding layer.

System false triggering

Disruption of reverse flip function (such as abnormal folding when shifting gears): Turn off the automatic folding function and reset the control unit program.

4. Maintenance precautions

Prioritize troubleshooting simple issues: 70% of faults are caused by poor power contact or mirror contamination. Check the fuse and clean the mirror before sending it for repair.

Suggestions for replacement of accessories:

High end models should try to retain the original mirror housing and only replace internal modules to avoid color differences.

Choose lenses with rainproof coating to enhance visibility in harsh weather conditions.

Safe operation: Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery before maintenance to prevent short circuits.

Maintenance reminder: Avoid hanging heavy objects (such as large driving recorders) on the rearview mirror, as long-term loading can easily cause the base to loosen; Test the heating function before the rainy season to ensure timely effectiveness of defogging.
