Carlos Alcaraz booked his place in a second consecutive French Open final after Lorenzo Musetti retired injured in the fourth set of their semi-final match at Roland Garros.

Alcaraz was leading 4-6, 7-6(3), 6-0, 2-0 when Musetti, visibly struggling with a thigh issue, was forced to end the contest. It marked the third time this season that Alcaraz has beaten his Italian rival, having previously prevailed in Monte Carlo and Rome.

Despite not being at his clinical best throughout the tournament, Alcaraz found his rhythm after dropping the opening set. The second set featured intense baseline rallies and showed why both men have been among the top clay-court players of 2025.

Once Alcaraz levelled the match through a focused tie-break, the momentum shifted entirely. He raised his intensity, taking control of points with his trademark aggression while Musetti’s physical condition visibly deteriorated.

Musetti, who reached the semi-finals at all three clay-court Masters this season, needed medical attention late in the third set. After two visits from the physio and a brief attempt to continue, he conceded the match at the start of the fourth.

Although Alcaraz admitted, “It’s never fair. I want to win but not like this,” he now moves forward to face Jannik Sinner in a mouth-watering Grand Slam final that will mark their first meeting at this stage of a major.
